April 2015 was the launch of BCCA’s Pig Manure composting project. A local Monto piggery are trialing composted spent eco-shelter bedding spread back onto their cropping lands.
During November and December 2015, the compost was spread over 5 trial sites at a rate of 10t/ha. The sites were located on two properties and included Lucerne crops used for hay production, Rhodes Grass/Lucerne pasture and a Sorghum crop.
The trial will wind up in March/April 2016 with a workshop to discus trial results and the benefits of using eco-shelter bedding on cropping lands.
This project is funded by the Australian Government’s National Landcare Programme under a 25 year Anniversay Landcare Grant.
