Investment: $30,000

Funding body: NHT

Project purpose: Informing farmers about new and modified machinery assists in the adoption of new practices such as conservation farming

Key achievements:

          • A 40-page book, ‘Zero tillage planters in the Burnett’ features new and purpose-built zero tillage planters in use in the South Burnett at the time
          • The book was distribute throughout the catchment and into bookstores

BCCA commissioned Richard Mason to document the types of zero tillage planters in use in the South Burnett.

The resulting publication contained photographs and technical information on planters that had either been bought new or purpose-built by the owner or the local engineering works.

The purpose of the publication was to inform farmers about new and modified machinery assists in the adoption of new practices such as conservation farming.

Most machines were modified from conventional planters or tillage equipment and the profile for each machine included the owner’s opinion about the machine’s benefits and limitations. Most owners had plans for further modifications to their planter.
