SUMMARY:CYDECTIN LA AND INFO ON LOCAL MULTIMIN TRIALS - Monto
DESCRIPTION:WEDNESDAY\, 18 JULY AT MONAL – MONTO \nTIME:  9AM-11.30AM \nLocation – MONAL (Peter and Jenny Aisthorpe) 2126 Monal Road (turn left onto Monal road at Mungungo)  – Monal is about 40mins from Monto. \nCydectin LA:  Cydectin LA is one of only two long acting products we have for ticks\, and the longest acting product we have for worms in cattle.  These two things make it particularly worthwhile for growing out young stock\, whether they be trade steers or replacement heifers. \nBecause it is a concentrated product a good management system is required if it is to be used safely and effectively. \n\nAnimals should be weighed and dosed according to weight (overdosing is dangerous and under-dosing encourages resistance)\nThe injection need to be applied in the recommended place\, behind the ear of the animal. (Thus adequate restraint and a good technique are important)\nAnimals need to be in good body condition. (Low body fat decreases the length of action and increases the risk of effective overdosing)\n\nThe purpose of this training day is to demonstrate the correct application site and method as well as discuss when and where it may be of benefit  in your system. \nLocal Multi-Min Trials:  Multi-min is a mineral injection containing Zinc\, Manganese\, Copper and Selenium. They have had great success with it in deficient coastal areas\, increasing weight gains and conception rates as well as decreasing the incidence of diseases such as  post calving complications in cows and heifers. \nThere has been mixed results in the Monto area\, with some  producers reporting no benefits and some measuring huge returns on investment.  My thoughts are that we are more likely to see benefits in coastal areas like the Boyne valley\, high rainfall areas like Monal and lighter country where nutrients are leached from the soil more readily. \nDuring the day we’ll be sharing some of the results from local trials and discussing how  Multi-min works and when to use it. \nThere may also be the potential to work with Virbac to do further trials in this area\, or we can help design your own trials. Any input from producers who have used it are also welcome. \nRSVP:  Hayley – hwebster@farmstuff.net.au.  Farmstuff – 4166 1466

SUMMARY:Improving beef business performance with high quality forages - Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Whole farm economic analyses have shown that perennial legumes are a profitable intervention for many areas of northern Australia. In particular\, analyses for central Queensland have shown that perennial legumes (and especially leucaena) are the most profitable of all available beef production strategies as well as being the most profitable of all forage options. \nHowever\, most producers only have a limited area of arable soil suited to planting high quality forages such as perennial legume-grass pastures or annual forage crops. Therefore\, they have to make decisions regarding: \nWhich high quality forage to plant\, and\nHow to allocate the high quality forage between different age groups of steers in the herd (i.e. when should steers start grazing high quality forage\, for how long\, and for which target market?).\nThis presentation by Dr Maree Bowen will address these two research questions using forage oats and leucaena-grass pastures grown in central Queensland\, as an example. \nRegister now! \nAfter registering\, you’ll receive a confirmation email containing information about joing the webinar. The session will be recorded and a link sent to all those who register. So if you can’t attend on the day\, you won’t miss out. \nTo successfully participate in this webinar\n1.
