What We Do

BCCA helps land managers, industry and community improve sustainable catchment health for the Burnett, Kolan, Isis, Gregory, Elliott, Burrum and Baffle catchments.

Funding

BCCA brokers and administers funding for onground projects, workshops and events that assist Burnett region landholders and community groups improve sustainable land management. To find out what funding is currently available check out our Current Programs.

Community Groups

BCCA partners with Landcare, Producer, Local Government and other Community Groups to improve agriculture and catchment health. For current opportunities check out Work With Us and Current Programs.

Landholders

BCCA works with landholders in the Burnett, Kolan, Isis, Gregory, Elliott, Burrum and Baffle catchment areas to improve sustainable agriculture.

We provide funding for onground projects, assistance with weeds and pests, property mapping , field days and workshops to assist landholders make agriculture more sustainable.

Natural Resources Investment Program

The Reef Water Quality- Burnett Grazing Project is an initiative of the Burnett Mary Regional Group and is supported by funding from the Queensland Government.  The project is coordinated locally by Burnett Catchment Care Association.

Agricultural Strategy for the Western Burnett District

This project aims to help build the capacity of agriculturalists in the Eidsvold and Mundubbera districts and support the development of meaningful and long-lasting resilience by addressing the fundamental economic and NRM foundations of the region.

Planning For Improved Property Management

Project aims to develop Property Management Plans (PMP’s) with Inland Burnett graziers to increase landholder capacity and skill development via the open access online mapping tool – Queensland Globe.

This project is supported by Burnett Catchment Care Association, through funding from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program.

Bugs, Beetles & Biocontrol

Project aims to create a long-term and sustainable management of Cat’s Claw Creeper and Parthenium in the North Burnett region via the ongoing production and use of effective biocontrol agents.

This project is supported by Burnett Catchment Care Association, through funding from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program.

Mount Lawless Water Monitoring

BCCA are contracted through The State of Queensland as represented by the Department of Science, Information Technology and Innovation (DSITI), for the ongoing monitoring of water quality at the Burnett River at Mount Lawless.  Mount Lawless is one of the 43 sites involved in the Great Barrier Reef Catchment Loads Monitoring Program.

 

Burnett Koala Program

The Burnett Koala Program is a citizen scientist-based project aimed at raising awareness regarding the significance of regional koala populations and habitat health, in addition to contributing to understanding koala distribution, presence, activity and habitat health in the Burnett catchment region.

Katie Muller

Katie Muller

General Manager

Based in Monto, Katie has been with the Association since 2007 and has a Bachelor of Agricultural Science – Rural Technology from the University of Queensland, Gatton. Katie oversees the overall, day-to-day operation of the organisation including contract management and reporting as well as assisting in the field with Sustainable Agriculture programs.

Melinda Clarke

Melinda Clarke

Administration Manager

Melinda is based in the Monto office and has a Bachelor of Applied Science – Biotechnology from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT).  She provides extensive administrative and organisational support on all projects in addition to serving on the executive staff as Secretary and Treasurer for the Association.

Marisa Young

Marisa Young

Extension Officer

Marisa is based in Mundubbera and has a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies from Griffith University.  Her background is in environmental planning and natural resource management. She and her husband and family run a grazing property south of Mundubbera. 

Previously Marisa has overseen the floodplain management recovery projects in response to the flood events of early 2013, the Better Catchments project and also our Reef Alliance – Burnett Grazing program.

Naomi Purcell

Naomi Purcell

Strategy Development Officer

Naomi has a Bachelor of Business Administration, majoring in Management and Information Systems and a Diploma in Purchasing and Materials Management, it follows that her professional background is largely based in the fields of Administration, Marketing & Human Resources Management. She has spent her whole life living and working in rural communities and moved to Monto in 2011 after purchasing a rural manufacturing business.  Other pastimes include grazing stud and commercial cattle, farming, artificial breeding, and horse riding.

Naomi managed the Monto Agricultural Strategy project which aimed to empower growers in what was once the Monto shire by providing relevant information regarding diversifying income streams, reducing financial risk and ensuring more reliable farm incomes.  Her current role is as Strategy Development Officer for our Western Burnett Ag Strategy project.

Misty Neilson

Misty Neilson

Research, Funding & Analytic Officer

Misty is based in the Monto office and is currently our Research, Funding and Analytic Officer.  She is currently completing a Bachelor of Science – Ecology and Environment through Central Queensland University (CQU).  She has previous experience in environmental research, accounting, management, human resources, contract management, tenders/funding applications and business.  Before joining BCCA Misty worked for regional government in community economic recovery following natural disaster events with a focus on agriculture. Misty also is a CASA approved licenced drone pilot (up to 24kg) & an Accounting for Nature accredited expert (Cat 1: Native veg & fauna)

Veronica Chapman

Veronica Chapman

Extension Officer

Veronica is based in Bargara and has a Bachelor of Agricultural Science and PhD in Agriculture from the University of Queensland (UQ) and also a Masters of Professional Accounting from the University of Southern Queensland.  She rejoins the BCCA team to run our Reef Water Quality – Burnett Grazing project and also the National Landcare Program – Planning for Improved Property Management project.

During her agricultural career, she has worked in several locations across Queensland in grazing, cropping and irrigation industries. She has been based in the Burnett for the past 12 years and enjoys the opportunity to work with landholders on the issues that matter most to them and their business.
